Developed for the Military Sealift Command, the Shipboard Material and Readiness Tracking (SMART) software system deploys with a Palm Pilot Personal Data Assistant (PDA) and multi level, portable system architecture. The software system supports a "tiger team" inspection format in establishing the mission readiness of MSC waterborne assets.

SMART provides an intuitive graphical user interface for defining and configuring inspection plans. Inspectors can break down the steps and likely findings of a specific test so that an inspection record can be developed quickly on the PDA using a pick list approach. The PDA component enables the inspector to document findings while on the deck plates.

A database driven "user interface" provides for organizational customization of the application.

Using the Sybase ASA database and UltraLite technology, the system records, tracks and illustrates deficient and compliant operational characteristics of material assets, storing data in a replicating, relational database management system. A consolidation database, accessible from a web-enabled, thin client interface provides enterprise-wide management and oversight. APIs with the SAMM system Repair and History modules provide for "cradle to grave" traceability of each inspection record.
